Catching Up With Colour of London

A lot has happened since we last spoke with Jimmie Allen and Nate Woodall, better known as Colour of London! The guys have accomplished so much in 2013, such as the creation of their logo, website, and two successful North American tours. We wanted to give fans an exclusive look at what’s been going on with “the voice of Alex and Ani” as they prepare for what’s next.

2013 has been quite a year of growth for you guys! Tell us a little about it.

It has been a major year for us in terms of growth. This time last year we were just planning to record songs as Colour of London for the first time. We essentially didn’t have any recorded music besides demos and home studio recordings…no website, no music videos, and very few shows as a band. There wasn’t much public physical evidence that Colour of London existed! The past year has been great and we were able to record our first EP, release music, and start building a fan base through touring, our website, and great social media team!

Congratulations on the release of your EP! How has the response been?

Thank you! So far so good! It was just released on iTunes and Spotify in November but we’ve been playing the songs from the EP for the past several months touring and people seem to really enjoy them.

You went on a retail acoustic tour earlier this year. How did that go?

Great! We’d been used to playing loud shows with a full band and this was the first time we’d played in such intimate spaces with people a few feet (or a few inches sometimes) away from us. We were able to really hear and focus on playing the songs dynamically in these settings. It gave us an opportunity to try out a lot of new material and even experiment with older songs and covers. The tour was 5 weeks long and took us up and down the entire east coast. It was a tough schedule to keep at times, but it was an amazing experience that really helped us grow and solidify as a band.

Your Northeast fall tour stopped at venues such as The Met in Providence and Brighton Music Hall in Boston. How was this different from other tours?

They were music clubs where people came to hear and discover new music. The retail tour was fantastic but most of the people who saw us on that tour were there to shop, then stopped to listen as opposed to just being there for a show.

What can we expect from Colour of London in 2014?

More shows, more songs, and more recording! We are in the process of refining our sound both live and in the studio so that’s always an exciting time for a band. As the year progresses, we’ll be looking to record another EP and play a lot more shows in 2014. This past year has been a solid block in the foundation we’re building. Our goal as band is to continue to improve as writers and musicians and to keep making music that has the ability bring something positive to the ears of the listener!
